Auditor General

The Auditor General is an independent non-partisan professional, appointed as an Officer of the House of Assembly. In accordance with Section 10 of the Auditor General Act, "The auditor general is the auditor of the financial statements and accounts of the province and shall make those examinations and inquiries that the auditor general considers necessary to enable him or her to report as required by this Act." This includes audit of all Government departments and all Government entities defined as agencies of the Crown.

The Act also requires that the Auditor General report to the House of Assembly on the results of audits and examinations of Government departments and related entities. Pursuant to
requests from the Lieutenant-Governor in Council, the House of Assembly and/or the Public Accounts Committee, the Auditor General may also conduct special assignments and unless the Lieutenant Governor in Council appoints another person, is appointed by the Act to audit Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The Act specifies that the appointee be a qualified auditor. Considerable audit experience in addition to a professional accounting designation in good standing is considered essential to the position. Familiarity with Canadian auditing standards, and Public Sector Accounting Standards issued by the Public Sector Accounting Board, is required. An understanding of Government programs, processes and legislation is desirable, as would be a comprehensive understanding of, or experience in, public sector administration.

The successful applicant will be a results-oriented individual with a high degree of integrity and established credibility in his/her professional community. These attributes are essential to maintaining the public trust and protecting the integrity of the work of the Office of the Auditor General. The Auditor General will possess effective interpersonal, communication, project management and analytical skills and have the ability to exercise sound judgment when rendering complex decisions. Experience in communicating effectively with a wide range of people, including the media is desired.

The required skills and knowledge for this position would normally have been obtained through progressively responsible leadership experience in senior management roles, including
management of complex projects. This position is a non-renewable 10 year appointment to be made by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on resolution of the House of Assembly.

Our Requirements:
10 years of experience in strategic and operational financial management preferred
A bachelor's degree or MBA, or significant relevant experience
A CPA designation
Experience with ERP implementation
Experience in regulated manufacturing, preferably in the life sciences sector would be a definite asset.

Auditor General - Legislative Assembly of Alberta

Alberta’s Auditor General is a nonpartisan officer of the Legislature appointedby the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly.
As Auditor General you are the auditor of all government ministries, departments, funds and provincial agencies, including universities, public colleges, technical
institutes and Alberta Health Services. You will also make recommendations to government and public agencies on opportunities and solutions for improved
performance reporting and the use of public funds.

Candidates will have extensive executive audit management experience, in-depth knowledge of accounting, audit and financial reporting standards
and proven success in leading teams and managing complex financial and administrative systems. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
is required, including the requisite professional accounting accreditation to prepare reports under the Auditor General Act. With a focus on strategic
leadership, your experience managing professional services human resources, exceptional communication and relationship building skills as well as working
knowledge of the theory and practice of accountability in large organizations will be key in this role.
The current salary range for the position is $208,778 to $280,662, dependent on qualifications.
